Vietnam's Old Capital

For many years Vietnam was ruled from a town approximately half way between Hanoi and HCMC (Saigon). The former city was surrounded by a citadel, but many of those buildings were destroyed during the French and American wars It's draw to travelers today is the collection of imperial tombs, situated just outside of town along the river. The tombs served as retreat homes for the emperor's and family in life and then became their eternal resting places in the after life. The town itself still has a lot of charm and they were doing their best to rebuild the citadel buildings with the help of UNESCO.
