Day 45 8 October 2010 Friday
The current town of Byblos has been continuously inhabited for the past 7000 years, and was at one time the busiest trading port in the eastern Mediterranean. Originally called Gebal, the Greeks called it Byblos named after the papyrus (for making books) that was shipped through here from Egypt.
We ended the day by traveling on to Beirut through the middle of a rain storm.

Hey Kari & Jason!
A message from Amsterdam, from Wouter. We met at pansion Kose, at Goreme, Capadocia. I am looking at your blogspot: looks really nice! Beautifull pictures you make. What camera do you use, if I may ask?
Nice to see you went to the Baron hotel in Aleppo and to Apamea. I was also in Hamma: we were shocked when we were there to read in our guide what had happened there only 30 years ago by Assad... Terrible..
So now you are in Lebanon.. Love to go there once. Especially Beirut. Heard is has a nice atmosphere... It even has a gay life it seems... That is to say an open gaylife. Suppose everywhere exists some kind of gaylife.. Anyhow. Hope you enjoy your trip furthermore.. In case you come to Amsterdam again, sent me a note, would be nice to have a drink or something. I think I gave you my email adress, but in case you do not have it it is woutervinken@chello.nl. By the way: even I have never seen a bike with 3 chairs like you fotographed.... :) Take care, See you.
Wouter
