Day 11 04 September 2010
They had indoor plumbing (on the left behind the 1900 year old painting).
They had wall to wall tile and marble.
They had a very nice library with over 12,000 scrolls.
They had streets paved with marble with many pilgrims a tradition that continues even today.
They had seating for 25,000.
Unfortunately, they lost their ocean front property to river silt from the Cayster River. (This is “Harbor Street”, it used to run to the harbor.)
And they did not have earthquake insurance to repair the marble wall puzzles, so now the nice folks with the Austrian Archeological Institute are doing it for them.
P.S. Take heart fellow travelers, you can find a decent dark beer in Turkey.
